Bring your red folders tomorrow!
Today we had art for our families for the holidays.
We watched the Kindergarten concert!
We had gym outside.
In ELA we were practicing letters and sentences.
Bring your red folders for tomorrow!!!!
* There is a blue sheet that will go in the red folder. This blue sheet is a great way to see how your child is doing in reading. You can see how they are with their letter sounds (there are 36!). The other side of the page has a list of words that are common and they should be familiar with spelling or able to sound them out. Try practicing these sounds and words with your child over the break! Below is some helpful information for these words and sounds.
Short Vowels
The sounds that most kids are familiar with for the vowels. There are pictures on how to pronounce these. 'a' as in "Apple"
Long Vowels
This is the other sound vowels make. It is basically the name of the vowel itself. 'A' as in 'Acorn' or 'Cave'
Bossy 'e'
The 'e' that is at the end of the word becomes the boss and makes the previous vowel say its name. Example "Cave"
Heart Words
Words that do NOT follow regular sounding out when reading. So you have to keep them in your heart/memory. Example: "said" sounds like it should be spelled as "sed" / "of" sounds like it should be "uv" / "have" is a heart word because the bossy 'e' as mentioned above does not work in this situation.
Segmenting and Blending
Read each sound individually as you go through the word. "b" "e" "d" = Bed. Then, you can go through the first two sounds, then the last sound "Be" "d" = Bed. Kids practice blending or putting the sounds all together sometimes using their fingers, or sliding a hand down their arm to stretch out the word.
